Cloud Website Hosting Explanation

What is cloud hosting really? The term 'cloud' seems to be quite modern in today's computing, World Wide Web and web hosting terminology. Still, just a select few in fact are aware of what cloud hosting is. Perhaps it is a smart idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long story concise, we will firstly notify you about what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Restricted to a Remote File Storage Solely.

1. Providing a remote file storage solution, which comprises one disk storage tool for all clients, does not transform any given web hosting service provider into a real cloud hosting distributor.

The cPanel hosting companies call the ability to provide remote data storage services a cloud hosting service. Up till now there is nothing bad about the cloud labeling, but... we are discussing hosting solutions, not remote disk storage services for individual or business purposes. There's always one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to name a shared web hosting solution, powered by a one-single-server hosting environment, precisely like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" solution. That's because the remaining pieces of the entire web hosting platform must be working in precisely the same way - this does not relate only to the remote data storage. The other services involved in the entire web hosting procedure also need to be remote, separated and "clouded". And that's very problematical. A very small number of web hosting companies can really achieve it.

2. It Involves Domain Names, E-mail Aliases, Databases, File Transfer Protocols, Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote disk storage exclusively. We are talking about a web hosting solution, serving countless domains, web sites, mail accounts, etc., are we not?

To call a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one takes a lot more than providing just remote file storage mounts (or probably servers). The electronic mail server(s) need to be dedicated only to the email connected services. Carrying out nothing else than these particular procedures. There might be just one single or perchance an entire cluster of mail servers, based on the overall server load generated. To have a real cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be working as one, irrespective of their real amount. Executing nothing different. The same is valid for the users' web hosting Control Panels, the FTP, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a genuine cloud hosting services provider will support numerous datacenter sites on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a Domain Name Server of a true cloud hosting provider:

dns1.www.mygsbc.com

dns2.www.mygsbc.com

If such a DNS is provided by your web hosting accounts provider, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud hosting environment in use, but you can definitely be sure when you spot a Domain Name Server like the one beneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud hosting service. This kind of DNS merely reveals that the web hosting environment in use is one-single-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a one-single-server web hosting platform and holds a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, a single physical server deals with all web hosting services (web, electronic mail, DNS, databases, File Transfer Protocol, Control Panel(s), files, and so on).

Remote File Storage - The Twisted Definition of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not confined only to a remote file storage solution, as plenty of hosting providers wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file web hosting vendors would have been classified as cloud web hosting ones a long time ago! They are not classified as such, as they plainly supply file hosting services, not cloud hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform looks indeed quite plain, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud web hosting platform. It cannot be, because it's merely one small constituent of the whole cloud web hosting platform. There's a lot more to be discovered in the cloud web hosting platform: the hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the Domain Name Server cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the email cloud and... in the foreseeable future, probably a bunch of brand new clouds we currently don't know about will show up out of nowhere.
